Pastor's Corner
May 15
My Dear Friends,
On this “Good Shepherd Sunday,” the Catholic Church worldwide celebrates the
48th World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Although the Church celebrates all
vocations, today it focuses on the special vocation to the ordained priesthood.
It also cautions bishops of the world to develop a missionary spirit and to
remember that they should try to have an equable distribution of priests. That
means that places in the world with plentiful vocations to the ordained
priesthood should share their priests with places of the world that have very
few.
This coming Thursday, Cape Fear Catholic Charities will be having a
resume writing course from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Please see the information contained
in this bulletin or contact the Cape Fear office of Catholic Charities. This
workshop is especially helpful for those just starting out in the workforce and
for those who need to refresh their resumes for future work.
Remember
that next Saturday, May 21st, Knights of Columbus Council #1074 will be having
Louisiana Saturday Night Cajun Dinner at 6:30 p.m. You may buy tickets after
Masses this weekend or in the parish office. Proceeds will benefit our CARE
Ministry, specifically providing for summer camp for children infected with or
affected by HIV/AIDS.
Congratulations to St. Mary Parishioner Don Adkins
who has been named the District Governor of Rotary for the 2012-2013 year.
Congratulations and best wishes, Don, in your preparation for this great honor.
Padre Alex, the associate pastor of our sister parish in Honduras, will be
coming to visit from May 23rd to June 7th. This will be his first visit to the
United States.
As you probably know, we’re heavy into the wedding season
at St. Mary Parish. Please keep all the couples in your prayers as they begin
living their special vocations.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
- Father Bob
